The site was first set up in 1999. It was originally designed to help and support the students that attended the courses at the FSC centres. Over time the interest in the seashore has grown enormously with more than 1000 hits a day from all over the world.
As a result we have extensively overhauled the site to include a much greater range of species and habitats.
This up-dated site was developed during the autumn of 2005 and includes:
A more comprehesive list of rocky shore species (doubling in number the previous list)
Improve the details of these species
A section on plankton has been added
Sediment Shores has been added including species of sediment
In 2006 we improved the sections on saltmarsh and sand dunes. 2007 saw the addition of mangrove to saltmarshes. This is an area we hope to further improve in the future.
We hope you find the site useful and we thank the many people, from around the world and from different marine organisations, that email in comments and suggestions. Please keep sending them in.
